Safety Regulations for Tow Truck Operations

Tow Truck Requirements for Equipment, Operation and Certification
The Utah Division of Administrative Rules updated tow truck rules December 22, 2009. The new rules are in effect as of January 1, 2010.

Utah Fuel Surcharge Rule is stated as follows R909-19-12(5)(a):

(5) As fuel increases .50 per gallon from the base rate of $3.00, a surcharge shall be allowed of 10% of the base rate.
Conversely, if prices drop, they will decrease by the same amount.
(a) To determine the average daily per gallon diesel cost, refer to tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/wohdp/diesel.asp

Example:

Tow Rate: $145.00
Surcharge: $14.50 (national fuel rate @ $3.50 + 10% of base tow rate)
Total per tow: $159.50

The fuel surcharge may only be charged to the tow base rate fee and not the storage and administrative fees.
